Zee Studios has announced that two of their films, Joram and Kennedy, will be showcased at the Sydney Film Festival from June 7 to June 15 in Australia. Joram, directed by Devashish Makhija and starring Manoj Bajpayee, has made it to the main competition section of the festival, while Kennedy, directed by Anurag Kashyap and starring Rahul Bhat, will be screened for the audience in Australia but will not be part of the official competition.
Shariq Patel, the CBO of Zee Studios, expressed his excitement about the inclusion of both films in the festival’s lineup. He praised the unique storytelling of Joram and Kennedy and the opportunity to collaborate with two great talents in Makhija and Kashyap. Patel also emphasized the honor of having Zee Studios films showcased in such a prestigious global film festival.
Makhija, the director of Joram, was thrilled about the film’s selection in the main competition section at the Sydney Film Festival. He believed that the festival’s larger sustainability concerns were in synergy with Joram’s narrative, which questions the cost of development and inequalities of justice. Makhija expressed gratitude for the recognition of Joram by curators and audiences of the best in world cinema.
Kashyap, the director of Kennedy, was also delighted that his film would be screened at the Sydney Film Festival, following its previous screening at Cannes. He expressed excitement about attending the festival and believed that it would be a beautiful journey for Kennedy.
Joram has already premiered at the prestigious IFFR 2023, and Kennedy is set to premiere at the Festival De Cannes later this month. The inclusion of both films in the Sydney Film Festival further reinforces the global appeal of Indian cinema and the growing recognition of Indian filmmakers in the international arena.
