England had the largest ever team total in a Women’s T20 World Cup match, scoring 213/5 against Pakistan in their last group-stage game at Newlands, Cape Town on Tuesday.
The Pakistani side was unable to reach the target and they were unable to score 99 runs. England won the match comfortably by 114 runs.
After losing to Pakistan on Sunday, England was already through to the semi-finals. They won all four of their matches and were the clear winner of Group 2. They will undoubtedly be going into the fourth stage with a strong mentality.
England chose to bat first, after winning the toss. However, England did not get off to a great start as they were down two runs for 33 in the Powerplay. The ones who were dismissed were No.3 Alice Capsey and Sophia Dunkley.
England’s momentum was reestablished with their 74-run partnership, which saw Danni Wyatt scoring 59 runs from 33 balls and Natalie Sciverbrunt hitting a blistering 40-ball 81. Although Pakistan tried to respond with quick dismissals by Wyatt and England skipper Heather Knights, Sciver-Brunt was solid.
Amy Jones, wicketkeeper, was also an excellent ally. The pair scored a record 100-run partnership in just 7.3 runs to bring England to the world record.
Sciver-Brunt had 12 boundaries and a maximum. Jones scored five fours, and one six.
Pakistan, which had another poor World Cup campaign, didn’t look like it would pose any kind of threat to the English bowlers. England had already won the game, with Pakistan at 33/4 half way through the ninth over.
Pakistan was so deflated that they couldn’t even reach a 3-figure total. The England bowlers were pacer Katherine SciverBrunt and off spinner Charlie Dean, who each struck twice.
“We were doing well in the build up, but we weren’t bowling very well. “This was a great performance though,” said Player of the Match Sciverbrunt.
